What is a culture flask?

A culture flask is a laboratory vessel that grows and maintains cells under controlled conditions. Typically made of glass or plastic, it provides a sterile environment for cell culture, supporting both adherent and suspension cells. Culture flasks often feature a flat surface for cell attachment and a vented or non-vented cap for proper gas exchange.

Which flask is used in tissue culture?

T-flasks (Tissue Culture Flasks) are the most commonly used flasks in tissue culture. These flasks have a flat, rectangular base that provides an optimal surface area for adherent cells to attach and grow. They come with vented or non-vented caps to allow proper gas exchange, maintaining the required environment for cell growth.
Other flasks, such as spinner flasks, may also be used for suspension cultures in tissue culture applications, particularly when scaling up production or working with non-adherent cells. The choice of flask depends on the type of cells and the scale of the experiment.

What are the different types of flasks in cell culture?

T-flasks provide a flat surface for adherent cells in cell culture, while spinner flasks and Erlenmeyer flasks support suspension cultures with stirring or agitation. Roller bottles are used for large-scale adherent cultures, rotating to enhance growth. The choice depends on cell type and the scale of the experiment.
