Lab cylinders are an instrument used to receive liquids and accurately provide volumetric calculations. Availability includes two types — graduated and volumetric.

Graduated cylinders can provide approximate volume measurements. Volumetric cylinders offer high precision and accuracy with the volume of the specific measurement, so choosing between the two depends on the accuracy level required and the application in the lab. Some cylinders offer extended features, including autoclavability and raised graduations for easy readability, and some carry a tapered spout that enables easy pouring of reagents. Are there different graduated cylinder sizes?

Graduated cylinders are available in various sizes to accommodate different measurement needs. Common options include small sizes like 10 mL, 25 mL, and 50 mL, ideal for measuring small volumes, and medium sizes such as 100 mL, 250 mL, and 500 mL, widely used for general laboratory tasks.
Larger cylinders, including 1,000 mL (1 L) and 2,000 mL (2 L), are suited for measuring greater volumes. The cylinders typically feature clear markings for accuracy and are made of glass or plastic to meet specific lab requirements.
