MTT, or Thiazolyl Blue Tetrazolium Bromide, is a membrane-permeable dye. It is intracellularly reduced by mitochondrial enzymes, leaving a purple color that can then be analyzed to quantify the number of viable cells present in a sample. MTT is sensitive to light and should be kept in the dark until the assay is complete. MTT concentration can by read by a spectrophotometer at 500-600 nm. The MTT Assay is generally performed at 0.5 mg/well. MTT is often dissolved in PBS for use in cytotoxicity assays. bioWORLD provides everything necessary for liquid cell culture, including an extensive portfolio of culture media.
