Staurosporine is a strong inhibitor of phosphalipid/Ca2+ dependent protein kinase and platelet aggregation. It is most commonly used as an inducer of apoptosis in several mammalian cell types. It is also used to study role of protein kinases in signal transduction as it inhibits other protein kinases such as cAMP- and cGMP-dependent protein kinase.
