Biochem/physiol Actions: Mode of Action: Inhibits protein synthesis (elongation) by interfering with peptidyl tRNA translocation.
Antimicrobial spectrum: Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria (Gonnococcus only).
Mode of Resistance: Mutation in rpsE (the gene for ribosomal protein S5) prevents binding of spectinomycin.
Reconstitution: Prepare stock solutions should be prepared (water 10 mg/ml) and filter sterilized. Stock solutions can be stored at 2-8 °C for several weeks or at −20 °C for extended periods.
