General description: Factor IX is a 55 kDa single chain vitamin K-dependent plasma zymogen which plays a key role in the intrinsic and extrinsic blood coagulation systems.
Application: Factor IX is plasma zymogen key to blood coagulation systems. It has been used in studies of portal vein thrombosis (PVT) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It has been found that abnormalities in factor IX contribute to PVT in HCC patients. Additionally, it has been used in studies of changes in the coagulation system in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Linkage: View this factors role in the Coagulation Cascade
Physical form: Aqueous solution containing 50% (v/v) glycerol
Unit Definition: One unit is equivalent to the Factor IX activity in 1.0 mL of normal human plasma at pH 7.4 at 37 C.
