Biochem Physiol Actions: Pioglitazone hydrochloride is a PPARgamma agonist and thiazolidinedione (TZD) anti-diabetic. Pioglitazone is a selective agonist of the nuclear receptor peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-gamma) and to a lesser extent PPAR-alpha.
