Biochem Physiol Actions: Novobiocin, a member of aminocoumarin antibiotics, is naturally produced by Streptomyces niveus. Novobiocin is a well-known inhibitor of bacterial DNA gyrase and mammalian topoisomerase, ATP-dependent enzymes involved in cell division. It can be used in cell culture systems to treat mycoplasma contaminations. Furthermore, Novobiocin has an anti-cancer effects through Hsp90 (heat shock protein) inhibition., In addition, novobiocin shows a minimum inhibitory effect 0.25-16 µg/mL against gram positive and negative bacteria.
