n-Butanol is useful for the removal of ethidium bromide from DNA purified by CsCl gradient ultracentrifugation. It is also suitable for use in the concentration of dilute nucleic acid solutions by repeated extractions. Increased nucleic acid concentration improves recovery by ethanol precipitation.
