Mueller Hinton II Agar Plates contain a highly nutritious medium that allows the growth of most microorganisms, including both fastidious and nonfastidious bacteria, and the primary isolation of gonococci and meningococci.
Mueller Hinton II Agar Plates can be used for antimicrobial susceptibility testing through the disk diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer test). This test is conducted by placing disks with antimicrobials on agar plates inoculated with microorganisms. After incubation, the area with no growth, called the zone of inhibition, is measured. The diameter of the zone of inhibition indicates the antimicrobial susceptibility of the microorganism.
Mueller Hinton II is cation-adjusted with calcium and magnesium to ensure accurate Pseudomonas aeruginosa antimicrobial susceptibility testing with aminoglycoside antibiotics.
Contains 0.3% beef extract, 1.75% acid hydrolysate of casein, 0.15% starch, 0.002% calcium chloride, and 0.001% magnesium chloride, and 1.8% agar.
