General description: Wnt family member 5A (WNT5A) is a secreted, proinflammatory protein. It is part of the noncanonical WNT family. The gene encoding this protein is localized on human chromosome 3p14.3.
Biochem/physiol Actions: Wnt family member 5A (WNT5A) has a role in metabolic dysfunction in obesity and negatively modulates angiogenesis in adipose tissue. The protein regulates cell motility and polarity by activating β-catenin-independent pathways. It has been shown to be overexpressed in gliomas.
