General description: Oncostatin M receptor (OSMR) is a cell surface cytokine receptor. Oncostatin M and interleukin-31 are its ligands. The gene encoding this protein is localized on human chromosome 5p.
Biochem/physiol Actions: Oncostatin M receptor (OSMR) acts as an activator of janus kinase/signal transducers and activators of transcription (JAK/STAT) and mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway. Thus, it has a role in stimulating cytokines and inflammatory substances. Mutation in the OSMR gene has been linked to primary localized cutaneous amyloidosis.
