General description: Mercury(II) acetate is a reagent mainly used in oxymercuration-demercuration reaction.
General description: Mercury(II) acetate forms various addition compounds with olefins. Polarographic evaluation of these addition compounds has been proposed. It participates in the synthesis of nitrate esters, acetate esters, alcohols and ethers.
Application: Mercury(II) acetate may be used in the preparation of 2-benzylidene-3(2H)-benzofuran-3-ones (aurones). It may be used in the hydrothermal synthesis of [Hg2(apca)2]n [apca = 3-aminopyrazine-2-carboxylate], a new mercury(I)-organic framework based on Hg22 + dumbbell.
Application: Due to its strong affinity towards sulfur, it finds application as a reagent in desulfurization reactions. Mercury(II) acetate may be used in the preparation of mercury(II) acetate-Nafion modified electrode, which can be used in anodic stripping voltammetry for the analysis of lead and copper ions in waste water samples.
