General description: Hypericin is a photodynamic plant quinone, i.e. phenanthroperylene quinones. It has antiviral activity. On exposure to fluorescent light, it inactivates murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV), Sindbis virus, and human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1).
Application: Reference standard in the analysis of herbal medicinal products.
Application: It was used as reference standard in determining hypericins in St. John's Wort using HPLC method.
