A sesquiterpene lactone with anti-inflammatory effects, most notably by inhibiting gene expression mediated by NF-κB at doses from 1 to 10 µM; suppresses the proliferation of cancer cells through multiple mechanisms; has antibacterial and anti-protozoal activities.
