First the carboxyl-terminated alkanethiol is attached to the surface of gold nanoparticles via chemisorption in the presence of a stabilizing agent. This step is followed by the reaction of the carboxyl groups with (+)-biotinyl-3,6,9,-trioxaundecanediamine and 2-(2-aminoethoxy)ethanol.
