A natural quinone found in cell membranes, primarily mitochondrial membranes, with highest concentrations in the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, and adrenal glands; component of the electron transport chain; participates in aerobic cellular respiration, generating ATP and also acts as an antioxidant.
