A non-lipid inhibitor of cellular ceramidase activity (IC50 = 28 μM in a cell-based assay); induces the accumulation of endogenous ceramide species and decreases intracellular levels of sphingosine and S1P; inhibits cell proliferation of ovarian cancer cells in vitro (IC50 = 0.71 μM) and suppresses tumor growth in a syngeneic tumor model.
