A third-generation, broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic that disrupts the synthesis of the peptidoglycan layer of bacterial cell walls; increases EAAT-2 pump expression in the CNS and reduces glutamatergic toxicity in both in vitro and in vivo models.
