Brain Heart Infusion Broth is used for culturing fastidious microorganisms, such as Neisseria spp. and Streptococcus spp., as well as non-fastidious anaerobic microorganisms. Brain heart infusion powder is derived from bovine or porcine brain and heart tissue, so it is a highly nutritious general-purpose growth medium. It is often used in food safety, water safety, and antibiotic sensitivity tests.
The pH of the medium can be adjusted according to the growth requirements of the organism of study. Brain Heart Infusion Broth is available at pH 7.4 and pH 6.8.
Contains 1.45% tryptone, 1.00% brain heart infusion, 0.5% meat peptone, 0.5% sodium chloride, 0.25% disodium phosphate, and 0.2% dextrose. pH 7.4 or 6.8, depending on part number.
