A pentacyclic triperpene isolated from birch tree bark that inhibits the SREBP-driven pathway of cholesterol and fatty acid biosynthesis; 15-30 mg/kg/day decreases lipid levels and increases insulin sensitivity in mice fed a western-type diet and reduces the size and improves the stability of atherosclerotic plaques in LDLR-knockout mice.
