Biochem Physiol Actions: Tripartite motif-containing 22 is a protein encoded by the TRIM22 gene in humans and belongs to tripartite motif (TRIM) protein superfamily. The members of this family are important effectors of the innate immune response against viral infections. It is an interferon (IFN)-inducible protein as well as a p53 target gene. It plays a role in viral defense by restricting viral replication and may function as a ubiquitin E3 ligase. This gene is found to exert antiviral activity against RNA viruses, such as hepatitis B virus (HBV), encephalomyocarditis virus (ECMV) and human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). It is involved in the activation of NF-?B. It acts as a positive regulator of NF-?B-mediated transcription.
