Biochem Physiol Actions: TMEM59L (transmembrane protein 59-like) gene encodes a brain-specific membrane-anchored glycoprotein. This type-I transmembrane protein contains a signal peptide and a transmembrane domain. It is shown to have an inhibitory effect on APP (amyloid precursor protein) maturation and shedding. It also affects the activity of Golgi transmembrane glycosylation enzymes.
