Thy-1 cell surface antigen (Thy-1)/CD90 (cluster of differentiation 90) is a 25-37 kDa glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored glycoprotein. It was first detected in the T cells of mice. Thy-1 is expressed in thymocytes, T cells, neurons, hematopoietic stem cells, cancer stem cells, endothelial cells and fibroblasts. This gene is located on human chromosome 11q23.

Application: All Prestige Antibodies Powered by Atlas Antibodies are developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project (www.proteinatlas.org)and as a result, are supported by the most extensive characterization in the industry. The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. These images and the collection of this vast data set can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. Biochem Physiol Actions: Thy-1 is also known as CD90 (Cluster of Differentiation 90). The gene is involved in invasion and associated with epithelial-mesenchymal transition. It is a novel diagnostic marker that contributes for the diagnosis of epithelioid mesothelioma. It can act as a promising novel prognostic marker for male breast cancer. It may act as a biomarker for several tumors as well as cancer stem cells and may be involved in the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It may also act as a potential marker of lung cancer stem cells.
