Biochem Physiol Actions: Transforming growth factor ß (TGF-ß) interacts with TGF ß receptor III (TGFBR3) which allows TGF-ß to form a high affinity ternary comple with TGF-ß receptor type II (TGFBRII). Thus, TGFBR3 plays an important role as a coreceptor to increase ligand binding to TGFBRII. It enhances TGF-ß-mediated effects on the cells and eliminates the biological differences between TGF-ß isoforms. TGFBR3 inhibits breast cancer cell invasion by shedding its ectodomain and producing soluble TGFBR3. Soluble TGFBR3 binds and sequesters TGF-ß to decrease its signaling.
