Biochem Physiol Actions: SLC5A11 is a sodium/glucose cotransporter that uses ion gradients to drive active transport of nutrients, neurotransmitters, osmolytes and ions. It interacts with TNF-a, programmed cell death 1 (PDCD1) and complement component 4 (C4) and may induce apoptosis via the TNF-a - PDCD1 pathway. The gene encoding for this transporter also acts as an autoimmune modifier gene.
