Biochem Physiol Actions: SLC2A13 (solute carrier family 2), a glucose transporter, is copiously expressed in the brain specifically to the glial cells and neurons. It has a molecular mass of 75-90kDa. SLC2A13 is highly involved in myo-inositol brain metabolism. It acts as a neuronal transporter in the phosphoinositide (PIns) signaling pathway to transport inositol triphosphate that may contribute in controlling mood. It has been reported that altered SLC2A13 gene is associated with non-small-cell lung cancer promotion and progression.
