Application: Anti-SLC16A2 antibody produced in rabbit, a Prestige Antibody, is developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project (www.proteinatlas.org). Each antibody is tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues. These images can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. The antibodies are also tested using immunofluorescence and western blotting. To view these protocols and other useful information about Prestige Antibodies and the HPA, visit sigma.com/prestige.
Biochem Physiol Actions: SLC16A2 (solute carrier family 16, member 2) gene encodes a carrier protein that specifically transports thyroid hormone. It functions in the cellular uptake of thyroxine (T4), triiodothyronine (T3), reverse triiodothyronine (rT3) and diidothyronine (T2). Mutations in this gene cause Allan-Herndon-Dudley syndrome (AHDS), an X-linked developmental disorder characterized by hypotonia, spasticity, muscle hypoplasia, neurological disorders, cognitive impairment and severe neurological defects. Defects in this gene also cause learning disability and motor or movement disorder in males.
