Protein S100-A12 is a protein encoded by the S100A12 gene in humans. The gene is composed of three exons, which are divided by two introns of 900bp and 400bp. The protein is encoded by both sequences in exons 2 and 3 (exon 2 codes for the N-terminal 45 amino acids and exon 3 codes for the C-terminal 46 amino acids).

Application: All Prestige Antibodies Powered by Atlas Antibodies are developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project (www.proteinatlas.org)and as a result, are supported by the most extensive characterization in the industry. The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. These images and the collection of this vast data set can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. Biochem Physiol Actions: Protein S100-A12 is an endogenous receptor ligand for advanced glycation end products. It acts as a neutrophil activation marker and plays a crucial role in pro-inflammatory cytokine. It also serves as a potential biomarker for a range of inflammatory diseases. In serum, it may be a potential biomarker for coronary plaque vulnerability with coronary artery disease (CAD). The gene induces vascular inflammation contributing to the development of atherosclerosis.
