It is an adipokine, which is associated with insulin resistance (IR) and obesity-related metabolic disorders. Its concentration is associated with cardiovascular risk factors related to insulin resistance (IR) and coronary artery disease (CAD). It may act as a marker for metabolic complications and atherosclerosis and could be used to assess CAD.
