Biochem Physiol Actions: PPIF (peptidylprolyl isomerase F) also referred to as CypD or cyclophilin F belongs to peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase (PPIase) family. PPIases are highly-conserved cytoplasmic enzymes that accelerate protein folding. PPIF is a part of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) in the inner mitochondrial membrane. Hence, it is anticipated that its association with the mPTP masks the binding site for inhibiting inorganic phosphate (Pi) as well as enhances the open possibility of mPTP that results in apoptosis or necrosis.
