Biochem Physiol Actions: Peptidase D is an enzyme encoded by the PEPD gene in humans. Deficiency of this gene is an inherited autosomal recessive disorder associated with various diseases such as recurrent infections (of the skin and respiratory tract), dysmorphic facial features and variable intellectual disability. It is also involved in hepatomegaly with elevated liver enzymes and splenomegaly. It may also be inter-related to glutamate transmission and oxidative stress leading to schizophrenia.
