Biochem Physiol Actions: OGDH (oxoglutarate) is a component of the 2-oxoglutarate dehydrogenase complex, which plays a crucial role in the intramitochondrial energy metabolism. The catalytic activity by the complex is regulated by Ca2+, adenine nucleotides and NADH. During Krebs tricarboxylic acid cycle, it stimulates the conversation reaction of the a-ketogluterate to succinyl coenzyme A. Functional deficiency of the complex have been observed in brain and peripheral cells of patients with Alzheimer's disease.
