Biochem Physiol Actions: NKX6-1 (NK6 homeobox 1) is involved in the growth and modulation of endocrine activities of pancreatic islets. It acts as an immunohistochemical marker for pancreatic and duodenal neuroendocrine tumors. NKX6-1 also participates in lineage specification in early pancreatic progenitor tissue. This gene regulates the expression of several pancreas-related genes.
