Poliovirus receptor-related 1 (PVRL1), also known as nectin-1, is a member of immunoglobulin super-family. The gene coding for this protein is mapped to human chromosome 11q23.2. The encoded protein is characterized with ectodomain containing one V-like domain and two C2 like -domain.

Application: All Prestige Antibodies Powered by Atlas Antibodies are developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project (www.proteinatlas.org)and as a result, are supported by the most extensive characterization in the industry. The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. These images and the collection of this vast data set can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. Biochem Physiol Actions: Poliovirus receptor-related 1 (PVRL1) is a vital cell adhesion molecule, involved in the formation of tight junctions between epithelial cells. The encoded protein also plays a key role in secondary palate development. PVRL1 / nectin 1 is essential for proper Chlamydia trachomatis development. Mutations in PVRL1 gene results in non-syndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (CL/P) and ectodermal dysplasia-1. PVRL1 facilitates the entry of herpes simplex virus (HSV) 1 and 2 into human cell lines.
