The gene MURC (muscle-related coiled-coil protein) is mapped to human chromosome 9q31. It is an evolutionarily conserved protein. The protein is present in the cytoplasm and Z-line of the sarcomere.

It is involved in cardiac contractile dysfunction and atrioventricular conduction disturbances, resulting in increased risk to atrial arrhythmias. It is suggested to be linked with human cardiomyopathies.
