The gene LUC7L3 (Luc7-like protein-3) is mapped to human chromosome 17q21.33. LUC7L3 is widely expressed with highest expression in fetal tissues and adult brain. The protein contains two zinc finger motifs. It is localized in the nucleus, with speckled distribution.

Application: All Prestige Antibodies Powered by Atlas Antibodies are developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project (www.proteinatlas.org)and as a result, are supported by the most extensive characterization in the industry. The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. These images and the collection of this vast data set can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. Biochem Physiol Actions: The two zinc fingers in Luc7-like protein-3 (LUC7L3) have different functions. The first links the pre-mRNA and is important for LUC7L3 splicing function. LUC7L3 bridges pre-mRNA and U1 snRNP through the second zinc finger. Angiotensin II and hypoxia, signals contributing to heart failure, up-regulate LUC7L3 and RBM25 (RNA-binding protein 25). LUC7L3 along with RBM25 increase cardiac sodium channel SCN5A (Sodium channel protein type 5 subunit a) splice variants. This decreases the Na+ current.
