General description: Leukocyte cell-derived chemotaxin 2 (LECT2) is a hepatokine, encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 5q31.1-q32. The gene spanning ~8kb of genomic DNA contains four exons and three introns. LECT2 is a secreted protein with a molecular mass of 16kDa. The encoded protein is mainly expressed in vascular, endothelial and smooth muscle cells, adipocytes, cerebral nerve cells, apical squamous epithelia, parathyroid cells, sweat, sebaceous glandular epithelia and Hassall bodies. Additionally, it is also expressed at high levels in fetal and adult liver.
Biochem/physiol Actions: Leukocyte cell-derived chemotaxin 2 (LECT2) acts as a chemotactic factor for neutrophils. It is also implicated in the inflammatory response and insulin resistance. Low serum LECT2 level increases the risk of susceptibility to diabetic retinopathy (DR). Overexpression of the gene has been observed in circulating plasma of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients.
Immunogen: LECT2 (NP_002293, 34-68)This antibody is generated from rabbits immunized with a KLH conjugated synthetic peptide selected from the N-terminal region of human LECT2.
