KRT76 (Keratin 76) is a type II epithelial structural protein belonging to the intermediate filament (IF) group of proteins. Structurally, it is composed of a-helical, rod shaped central domain, which is responsible for filament formation. Non-helical head and tail domains flank the central domain. It is expressed in the suprabasal cell layers of oral masticatory epithelium.

Biochem Physiol Actions: KRT76 (Keratin 76) is a building block of epidermal cytoskeleton involved in wide range of cellular functions including protection from apoptosis, and injury, regulation of epithelial polarity, control of cell size and protein translation. It forms a link between the intermediate filament cytoskeleton network and tight junctions. In mice, KRT76 plays a vital role in postnatal survival. Its downregulated expression has been reported in oral carcinogenesis of human.
