Biochem Physiol Actions: KHK (Ketohexokinase) is a member of the pfkB family of carbohydrate kinases. It is highly expressed in the renal cortex and the small intestine. It drives the catabolytic phosphorylation of the fructose to fructose 1-phosphate in the fructose metabolism pathway. KHK uses ATP to form AMP and uric acid through xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR). Deficiency of KHK gene leads to a benign disorder, fructosuria.
