Integrin subunit a4 (ITGA4) is an adhesive factor, that is part of the integrin family. The gene encoding it is localized on human chromosome 2q31.3.

Biochem Physiol Actions: Integrin subunit a 4 (ITGA4) has a role in bone marrow homing. It associates with the ß1 integrin chain and forms the very-late-antigen-4 (VLA-4) complex. The protein also binds to vascular cell adhesion molecule-1, fibronectin and osteopontin (OPN) and modulates the activity of immature progenitors in the bone marrow. ITGA4 also aids the migration of B lymphocytes through the fibroblast barrier.
