Biochem Physiol Actions: IFITM1 (interferon induced transmembrane protein 1) is associated with several cellular processes, such as homotypic cell adhesion of interfereons and cellular anti-proliferative activities. It essentially plays a role in the formation of functional blood vessels. IFITM1 regulates tight junction assembly that stabilizes EC-EC (endothelial cells) interactions during endothelial lumen formation. It acts as a biomarker in endometrial stromal and smooth muscle tumors. It performs in the antiproliferative action of IFN-?. The suppressed expression of IFITM1 inhibits antiproliferative property of IFN-? as well as enhances the cell growth. Studies have been suggested that IFITM1 inhibits the extracellular signaling of the kinase. By binding, it increases the transcriptional activity of p53 and stabilizes the p53 protein through inhibition of p53 phosphorylation on threonine residue.
