Biochem Physiol Actions: HDDC3 (HD domain containing 3)/Mesh1 (metazoan spoT homolog-1) protein helps in the hydrolysis of guanosine 3',5'-diphosphate (ppGpp) both in vitro and in vivo. The active site of Mesh1 protein helps in ppGpp hydrolysis and a conserved His-Asp-box motif helps in Mn2+ binding. In bacteria, Mesh1 repress SpoT-deficient lethality and delayed cell growth stimulated by RelA (transcription factor).
