GALNT5 (N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 5) is a highly tissue specific protein. It predominantly localizes to the cytoplasm of gastric epithelial and gastric cancer cells. This gene localizes to human chromosome 2q24.
Synonyms: Anti-GalNAc-T5
Storage: -20C
Application: All Prestige Antibodies Powered by Atlas Antibodies are developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project (www.proteinatlas.org)and as a result, are supported by the most extensive characterization in the industry. The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. These images and the collection of this vast data set can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. Biochem Physiol Actions: GALNT5 (N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 5) glycosylates restricted types of substrates. It is capable of interacting with Golgi proteins, by projecting its catalytic domain in the lumen of the Golgi complex. It might play a role in maintaining the structure of gastric mucosa, and less differentiated gastric tumor tissues show low expression of this protein. Its low expression is linked with TNM classification, and functions as an independent prognostic marker for poor outcome in gastric cancer patients. In breast cancer, missense mutation in this gene results in the loss of enzymatic function of this GALNT5 protein. This gene is also up-regulated in hepatoblastomas when compared to the expression in differentiated livers.
