FMR1NB (fragile X mental retardation 1 neighbor) is an antigen associated with cancer and testis. It is specifically expressed in normal testis and in multiple cancers. This gene is localized to human chromosome Xq28, and codes for a predicted secreted or cell surface protein. This gene has six exons, spans ~44kb. The open reading frame codes for a protein with 255 amino acids, and a predicted molecular mass of 29.2kDa. The protein contains a transmembrane region and a signal peptide. It has a cysteine-rich trefoil/P-domain, which is characteristic of multiple secreted proteins. It does not belong to any known gene family.
Synonyms: Anti-Fragile X mental retardation 1 neighbor protein antibody produced in rabbit; Anti-Sarcoma antigen NY-SAR-35 antibody produced in rabbit
Storage: -20C
Application: Anti-FMR1NB antibody produced in rabbit, a Prestige Antibody, is developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project (www.proteinatlas.org). Each antibody is tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues. These images can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. The antibodies are also tested using immunofluorescence and western blotting. To view these protocols and other useful information about Prestige Antibodies and the HPA, visit sigma.com/prestige.
Biochem Physiol Actions: FMR1NB (fragile X mental retardation 1 neighbor) is expressed in multiple cancers such as melanoma, sarcoma, esophageal, lung, breast and ovarian cancer. It is therefore, a potential target for cancer immunotherapies based on monoclonal antibodies. Hypomethylation of the CpG island present in the gene promoter, is responsible for the activation and expression of this gene, as found in various cancers.
