EIF4G2 (Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4, ?2) is a 97kDa scaffold protein belonging to the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4G family. It is primarily associated with the cap-independent translation of proteins. There are four HEAT (Huntingtin, EF3, PP2A, and TOR1) domains present in the C-terminal end along with the conserved aromatic and acidic boxes.

Biochem Physiol Actions: EIF4G2 (Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4, ?2) is cleaved by caspase during apoptosis, which removes the acidic residues in the AA-box motif. The caspase cleaving facilitates the translation of mRNAs. It acts as a transcriptional repressor in both the cap-dependent and independent translation processes. It inhibits translation by producing translationally inactive complexes such as eIF4A and eIF3.
