CYB5B (cytochrome b5 type B) gene is localized to human chromosome 16q22.1 and is expressed on the plasma membrane of lymphoma cells. It is not expressed in normal lymphocytes, reactive lymphocytes or bone marrow precursor cells. It has a molar mass of 21kDa.

Biochem Physiol Actions: CYB5B (cytochrome b5 type B) protein is an essential component of the mARC (mitochondrial amidoxime reducing component)-containing N-reductase system. It requires heme for its activity and molybdenum cofactor bound to mARC. CYB5B functions as an electron carrier for several oxygenases that are membrane-bound. It is important for adipogenesis and fatty acid synthesis in adipocyte mitochondria. Overexpression of this protein has been observed in Hodgkin Lymphoma and aggressive Non-Hodgkin Lymphomas.
