CEACAM5 (Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 5) is a cell surface glycoprotein belonging to the membrane-bound immunoglobulin superfamily (IgSF). It is expressed in human airways. Structurally, it possesses a double reciprocal antiparallel binding model with leader sequence, V Ig-like N-terminal domain, three Ig-like internal domains, denoted as A1B1, A2B2, and A3B3.
Synonyms: Anti-CD66e antigen; Anti-CEA; Anti-Carcinoembryonic antigen; Anti-Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 5; Anti-Meconium antigen 100

Application: All Prestige Antibodies Powered by Atlas Antibodies are developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project (www.proteinatlas.org)and as a result, are supported by the most extensive characterization in the industry. The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. These images and the collection of this vast data set can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. Biochem Physiol Actions: CEACAM5 (Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule) is involved in the CEA-mediated intercellular adhesion and signaling pathways. It facilitates antiparallel CEA-CEA binding during intercellular adhesion between cells and parallel interactions between CEA molecules on the same cell. Both the interactions finally have impacts on the clustering of molecules to the cell surface. It also acts as a tumor marker in the several types of cancer.
