The gene CCL2 (C-C motif chemokine 2) is mapped to human chromosome 17q11.2-q12. It belongs to chemoattractant cytokines family. CCL2 is also referred to as MCP1 (monocyte chemoattractant protein 1).
Synonyms: Anti-C-C motif chemokine 2; Anti-HC11; Anti-MCAF; Anti-MCP-1; Anti-Monocyte chemoattractant protein 1; Anti-Monocyte chemotactic and activating factor; Anti-Monocyte chemotactic protein 1; Anti-Monocyte secretory protein JE; Anti-Small-inducible cytokine A2

Application: Anti-CCL2 antibody produced in rabbit, a Prestige Antibody, is developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project (www.proteinatlas.org). Each antibody is tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues. These images can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. The antibodies are also tested using immunofluorescence and western blotting. To view these protocols and other useful information about Prestige Antibodies and the HPA, visit sigma.com/prestige.
Biochem Physiol Actions: Proteins belonging to chemoattractant cytokines family mainly induce the migration and accumulation of different white blood cells. CCL2 (C-C motif chemokine 2) signaling via CCR2 (C-C chemokine receptor type 2) is crucial for recruitment of macrophages to tissue lesions or inflammation sites. CCL2 is up-regulated in luminal B breast cancer cells. It controls cell growth, inhibits necrosis and autophagy. CCL2 participates in activation of spinal microglia through PI3K/AKT (phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein Kinase B) signaling pathway in bone cancer pain (BCP). Isoglutaminyl cyclase mediated CCL2 maturation in brain causes neuro-inflammation in Alzheimer's disease. Expression levels of CCL2 in synovial fluid are linked with pain and physical disability in osteoarthritis patients.
