C9 (complement component 9) is a perforin-like protein that belongs to the membrane attack complex (MAC). The complex forms pores in the membrane of target pathogens . It is located on human chromosome 5p13 and has four domains . It has a 22-fold symmetrical arrangement, that generates an 88-strand pore-forming ß-barrel .
